Geek Out Work Out

I don’t know about you, but I need to pick up my workout game.  I still go to the gym every other day, but my cardio is suffering.  I find it so boring and end up coming up with whatever reason I can to not do it.  I literally can’t stop thinking while I’m running, walking, on the elliptical or on the bike. Working out at home always sounds good, but I end up distracted by TV after I finish cooking and cleaning.  Then, I came across some awesome workouts you can do with your favorite TV shows.  Needless to say, I’ll be busting out these when I need a little extra oomph to my routine.

doctor-who-workout1Doctor Who is one of my favorite shows and I can’t seem to help myself when it’s on BBC.  I go through some withdrawals and actually miss my favorite Doctors, so I often also binge the show when it’s not currently on season.  Next time I get stuck in a marathon or find myself being lazy on a Sunday morning, this has to be on my list.  If you’re also a fan of the show, you know the amount of cardio that a companion has too do is incredible.  They must have the best stamina and energy levels.  How could you not when you are constantly running from aliens with an alien through space and time?  Watching Doctor Who makes me want to 1. be healthier in general  (seriously….that’s a TON of cardio) and 2. try to find a way to be a lot more clever.  I’m the type who can’t think of something witty until a day later.  But when you’re with the Doctor you have to be able to think on your feet, put 2 anddoctor-who-workout 2 together to make 5 (yes…5), and always have a witty come back.

Personally I think these two workouts themselves would give you a full body experience over the course of an hour.  Imagine how many you’d do if you binge the show?! I’m pretty sure I’d be exhausted after just a two episodes.  Haha

One of my other favorite shows to binge is Game of Thrones.  It’s one of the most popular shows out right now, and I’m sure it will continue to be.  I ever miss a first run episode but I also rewatch at least once a week.  There’s always so much happening that I feel like I need to watch the show more than once in order to catch everything.  Rewatches would be great for fitting in an at home workout. While the below clearly is for a few seasons ago (Arya no longer gets mistaken for a boy), I’d definitely look into doing this and updating it to meet last season’s commonality.

harry-potter-workoutI’m an AVID Harry Potter fan. I know each movie by heart and can often be found reciting the dialog while watching.  Yes I’m that annoying movie viewer. I was 17 when the first movie came out, so saying I grew up with it would be a bit of an overstatement.  I was still caught up in the series and movies and loved the magic that it brought  to life on screen and in me.  Finding a workout for the series is perfect for me since I always end up in a mood, at some point, to watch any of the Harry Potter movies.  The best part is that I don’t fully have to pay attention to it.  I know it so well that I can zone out while cleaning, working on the blog or pretty much anything.  It would honestly be PERFECT for an in home workout to keep me busy but mentally distracted.

Supernatural is my guilty pleasure.  I enjoy this show way too much for a grown woman.  The dynamic between these two actors is incredible and truly the greatest part of this show.  I love how it can make fun of itself. The first season was definitely a bit creepy, but as time has gone by it’s become a lot of fun.  It’s a great to binge and can be super easy to do a workout too.

Last but certainly not least is Big Bang Theory, another one of America’s favorite shows.  It’s so much fun to watch and is easy to have on in the background.  I’ve seen a lot of the episodes so I can easily zone out to it.  There are my favorites, of course, like Giant Jenga, meeting Bernadette and Amy, when Sheldon takes Penny to the hospital, etc.  Not only does this tackle the extra workout, but it’s specifically a cardio walk out.  PLUS I feel like this is something Leonard and Sheldon could get behind.  After all these nerds don’t get out much and use Wii to exercise on a regular.

  1. I think it’s quite awesome that you’re using your favorite shows to motivate you to work out more! That’s an amazing idea, I don’t know why I never thought of that before.
